Medical experts say that climate has a definite impact on a person’s physical well-being. For example, many people often feel lethargic during the hottest days of summer because of changes in the body’s circulation. In order to keep the body cool, the heart has to send more blood to the skin where its heat can evaporate more easily. The result is that less blood is available to fuel the muscles and other organs, leading to weakness, fatigue and lethargy.

Many people get sick whenever the weather changes. Scientists now think that’s because of a fluctuating balance of positive and negative ions in the air. The scientists speculate that the electrically charged particles affect brain chemistry by altering the secretion of Cortisol, which is the body’s natural steroid that prevents inflammation. That may explain why people with painful joints are especially sensitive to changes in the weather. Scientists also say that the ions can cause migraine headaches in some people.
